Partnership for Evidence and Research for Learning Success (PEARLS)
Project summary
Partnership for Evidence and Research for Learning Success (PEARLS) is a two-part project focused on building capability in Victorian schools. The two elements of the project are:
- A Professional learning project focused on building metacognition and self-regulation in learners over a six-month period in 2020, and
- The development of evidence-based resources and illustrations of practice tailored for Victorian school leaders and teachers.
Project overview
The PEARLS project brings a suite of resources based on best available global evidence, presented as a range of recommendations and supporting resources for school leaders, in order to build a highly capable profession with a focus on Victorian schools and educators. You will find these tailored Victorian resources in the Victorian School Improvement Hub.
A group of five Victorian government schools collaborated with the Science of Learning Research Centre (SLRC) and E4L team in 2020 to explore the Guidance Reports on metacognition and self-regulation and implementation looking to improve teacher practice and student outcomes.
The long-term impact sought is improved educational outcomes for Victorian school students, particularly for students surrounded by disadvantage.
Tailored Victorian evidence-based resources
The Victorian School Improvement Hub contains tailored resources and illustrations of practice to support Victorian schools in their school improvement journeys.
These resources have been developed in partnership with the Bastow Institute of Educational Leadership.
Who is involved?
A cohort of educators from five Victorian schools were involved in the 2020 PEARLS project. These schools were Wyndham Park Primary School, Koo Wee Rup Primary School, California Gully Primary School, Wodonga Senior Secondary College and Korumburra Secondary College. You can read about how these schools adopted metacognitive strategies here.
Evidence for Learning and the Science for Learning Research Centre (SLRC), based at the University of Queensland, worked together to co-design the professional learning PEARLS project.
How is it funded?
This work is supported by the William Buckland Foundation.
